ABSTRACT
It is undeniable that, after food, shelter is the second most basic need of humans, and as a result, many people strive passionately to own their own home. As a result, it is critical to construct robust and effective structures to avoid unexpected collapse.
As a result, there is a pressing need to lower the rate of building collapse in Nigeria, particularly in the study region of Edo State. As a result of the foregoing, this research project will investigate the issues that lead to building collapse in Edo State. This study looked into the perspectives of construction experts in Edo State on building collapse, the causes of building collapse, the varied repercussions of building collapse, and viable solutions to eliminate building collapse. In the aim to achieve this, Eighty five (85) questionnaires were distributed and Eighty five (85) were retrieved and analyzed using mean score and percentiles. The findings revealed that Building collapses are caused by the following factors such as; Poor workmanship, bad design, use of sub-standard building materials, foundation problem, inadequate maintenance etc.The research also established that the most significant effects of building collapse is on human lives and properties, also some possible ways to reduce building collapse in Edo state is by frequent maintenance, use of quality materials, involvement of various construction professionals, approval of building plan before erecting any building etc. It is thus recommended that building collapse be treated with utmost importance as it can have an adverse effect on building project life cycle.
