ABSTRACT
The study focuses on the importance of active and effective participation of students in the political system through the formation of student unions. It explores the reasons for apathy among students during union elections, including fear caused by cultism, inadequate security, and lack of prosecution for violence. The study also examines the impact of corruption and societal perception of politics on student interest in union politics. Additionally, it discusses the relationship between a tight academic calendar and apathy among students. The findings suggest that insecurity and external interference discourage student participation in union politics. The study emphasizes the need for students to organize themselves effectively and for universities to create academic calendars that allow for participation in union activities without compromising academic progress. Measures such as declaring war against cultism and implementing technological solutions like CCTVs are recommended to enhance security during union elections and on campus.
