Abstract
In the face of current events in Nigeria, the country cannot afford to lag-behind in the comity of nations. The current crisis of relevance is traceable to lack of being proactive, obvious poverty, irresponsible governance, and repressive policies. The approach in this study is conceptual and phenomenological, This study discovered that the dilemma of Nigerian state is the absence of public-spirited leadership. A nation rises or falls depending on the kind of leadership within its system. This study concludes that Nigeria needs the style of leadership that is first and foremost people oriented and ethically guided. The absence of this kind of leadership has been the bane of meaningful development despite the enormous human and mineral resources’ that can enhance her greatness in the comity of nations. If Nigeria must rise above this present state of mediocre living and not live at the mercy of international organisations, Nigerian leaders must rise to the responsibility of engendering a social implementation of policies that will bring about progress and self-realisation among the Nigerian citizens. Above all, this study recommends the need for moral education in all the levels of education in Nigeria.
