ABSTRACT
State policing and crime reduction are crucial factors that contribute to maintaining law and order in any society. This abstract focuses on the relationship between community/State policing and crime reduction in Edo State, Nigeria. ”An Evaluation of Edo State Policy on State Policing and Crime Reduction in Edo State: Edo State Security Network/Vigilante in Edo South Senatorial District 2017-2022” Edo state like every other state, has been faced with various challenges related to crime, which includes armed robbery, kidnapping, and cultism. This study explores the effectiveness of state policing in reducing crime rates in Edo State and to know also if it has been accepted by the citizens. It delves into the strategies and tactics employed by the government using the State Security Network/ Vigilante to combat crime, such as community policing, and intelligence gathering. The study also examines the impact of these measures on crime rates and public safety in the state.
Furthermore, the abstract highlights the importance of collaboration between the State Security Network/Vigilante and the Nigeria Police as well as other relevant stakeholders, including local communities, government agencies, and non-governmental organizations. It discusses the significance of joint efforts in tackling crime and ensuring a secure environment for residents.
The findings of this study provide valuable insights into the role in crime reduction, specifically in the context of Edo State. The abstract concludes by emphasizing the need for continuous evaluation and improvement of the State Security Network/ Vigilante strategies to effectively combat crime and enhance public safety in state.
