ABSTRACT

This study aimed to assess the distribution channels in the logistics management of petroleum products, focusing on Oando plc and Mobil Oil Nigerian Plc as case studies. The main issue identified was the distribution tendency that led to a scarcity of petrol across the country. The objective of the research was to determine the effectiveness and efficiency of petroleum product distribution. Primary and secondary data were collected to address the research problems and objectives. The respondents included staff and customers of Oando Plc and Mobil Oil Nigerian Plc, selected through statistical methods for questionnaire administration. The collected data was organized and presented using tables, frequency counts, and percentages. Various hypotheses were tested, including regression analysis and analysis of variance (ANOVA) at 0.05 level of significance. The findings revealed distribution issues and inefficiencies in the distribution of petroleum products. Recommendations were provided, such as improving infrastructure, increasing delivery trucks, and enhancing coordination and communication with suppliers and customers. Government intervention was also suggested to regulate and monitor oil marketers' activities. Overall, this research adds to the existing literature on petroleum product distribution channels in Nigeria and offers valuable insights and recommendations for industry practitioners and policymakers.
