ABSTRACT
The research work is centered on the influence of social media on the lifestyle of students. The desire to carry out the research came as a result of the negative influence of social media on students lifestyle. The study therefore, set out to ascertain the influence of social media have on the lifestyle of students employing the media equation and social information processing theory. The study adopted the survey research method as it's research design and employed the questionnaire as data collection instrument for the study. Findings from the study shows that students are farmilar with whatsapp, facebook and Instagram. These social media has influenced students positively and negatively like helped students share what they feel and think and has reduced students learning and research capabilities. The study concludes that social media has influenced students negatively. Instead of using social media for academic purposes students use social media sites to chat. Against this background, the study reco mmends that the positive and negative effects of social media on the students should be explained to them by experts(psychologist, sociologist etc)
