AbstractThis research work focuses on the assessment of the communicative role of symbolism, using the Awkuzu community as a case study. It is aimed at highlighting the non-verbal role of language and its effectiveness in the Awkuzu land. Here, analysis will be done using appropriate linguistic methods of investigation, where in results will show case the effective use of symbolism as a non-verbal means of communication, and its numerous linguistic potentials. In other words, this research work is aimed at exploring how communication is possible without the use of speech as well as the use of symbols in the Awkuzu community.On the grounds that scholars have paid more attention to the use of speech in communication, with little or no importance accorded to the non-verbal aspect of communication, this work is aimed at portraying the importance of symbolism as a non-verbal aspect of communication.
