ABSTRACT
Eight weeks trial was carried out at the poultry unit of the University of Benin Teaching and Research Farm, Ugbowo, Edo State, Nigeria to investigate the effect of some phytogenic additives (cinnamon, tumeric, cloves, tumeric and clove, tumeric and cinnamon and control) in broiler chickens on the blood serum nutrients with a total of One hundred and twenty (120) broiler chicks. 120 birds from GS Investment Ltd. Ibadan, Nigeria were then randomly placed to six different pens (20 birds per pen) in a deep litter system with wood shavings as litter material. Adequate feeders and drinkers were made available prior to the coming of the birds. The birds starting from the fourth week of the experiment were given five different oral treatments via their formulated feed. Tr1 for cinnamon, Tr2 for tumeric, Tr3 for clove, Tr4 for tumeric and clove, Tr5 for tumeric and cinnamon and Tr6 for control and fed ad libitum. Tr1, Tr2,Tr3,Tr4,Tr5 were fed 10g,10g,10g,5g each of additive combined,5g each of additive combined respectively while Tr6 which served as control had no additive added.
