ABSTRACT

This study examines an assessment of non-governmental organizations on poverty alleviation among women in Uselu Community. The study adopted survey design through which questionnaires were administered to the respondents. The data was analysed using percentage and chi-square statistics. The result shows that Action for Community Development has contributed as non-governmental organizations agencies in rural development in Uselu in Egor local government. The result also shows people at the rural area are fully involved in the development of their area in Egor local government. The result revealed that the people of the community are involved in taking the decision for the maintenance. The result indicates that the people of the rural area initiate programmes and projects for the development of their rural areas. The study recommends that NGOs should set up systems to monitor their own performance and ensure the quality of the work done in the locality. Monitoring systems and other forms of control should be instituted by the NGO in the community at national and local levels which will help discourage the emergence of "fly-by-night" or pseudo NGOs.
