Conclusion

Non-adherence to statin medication was seen in this research. Adherence to statin medication is moderate among the individuals. Adherence to statin medication was higher among individuals with higher levels of education compared to those with lower levels of education. Rovastatin patients were more likely to take their medicine as prescribed than those on the other statins. More work has to be done in the future to understand what accounts for the adherence gaps across different patient groups at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital and how to improve statin adherence in both the initiation and maintenance phases of treatment.
