AN ASSESSMENT OF SIMILARITIES OF THE MARITAL ROLES AND DUTIES OF WOMEN IN THE SOUTHERN PART OF NIGERIA CASE STUDY: (ITSEKIRI KINGDOM)

ABSTRACT

This research work is centered on the traditions, norms and culture of the itsekiri community, it shows how captivating and intriguing the itsekiri culture. it shows the detailed roles of women as wives and mothers in the itsekiri kingdom, which is an issue in the society because people have different perceptive on the roles of women in the society. this study gives an insight of the expected behavior and responsibilities of a wife and a mother, it shows the upbringing of the female gender towards the institution of marriage from proper kitchen manners to good behaviors and home training. This study also show us the problems most of the women in itsekiri kingdom face in their marriages in terms of culture clashing, upbringing, career. and the consequence of defilement of the women which is a serious offense that is attracts punishment such as death to either the husband, children or the woman who commits the crime. This study generally confuses on women and their roles as wives and mothers in the itsekiri society, the problems faced in marriage, and the consequence of their defilement.
