SUMMARY
In our study of archetypes in No More the Wasted Breed and Another Raft, some enduring characters in literature are examined. These characters have certain personality traits which make it easy to identify them. The scapegoat, tricksters, terrible mothers are studied from different cultural backgrounds and times. These characters appeared and re – appeared in different ancient mythologies and even in modern time, they appear in contemporaryliterature. Their constant recurrence in diverse literature reveals the fact that the human race is the same anytime and anywhere. Racial differences, time, cultural orientation and civilization do not change their common traits. According to Jung’s position, they all share from a common or collective consciousness. As a result, a trickster in African mythology and Asia or European mythology/literature are the same. The time and place they appear do not affect their inherent traits. What this tells us is simply that all human beings (regardless of race and location) are exactly the same (especially in their subconscious make up). In addition, some gods are studied as archetypal characters because they often take human forms in order to visit and dwell among mortals.
