ABSTRACT
The main purpose of this study was on philosophical appraisal of religion in the development of democracy in Nigeria. In conclusion, all must be ready to participate in one way or the other. We must not keep mute until we get what is due for us as citizens of this great country. This has been demonstrated by citizen of Tunisia, Yemen, Algeria, Egyptian and Libya in the recent times until their voices were heard. Christians can make their voices to be heard when they fully involve in the governance of Nigeria. In other words, the participation of Christians in the sustainability of good governance and democracy in Nigeria can be entrenched through certain qualities such as objectivity, tolerance, honesty, impartiality, faithfulness, sincerity, integrity, dutifulness, commitment, dedication and loyalty, all of which are foundation towards a meaning development. The patriotism of individual Christian is needed at this critical time in the history of Nigeria when we are going through transformational dispensation. The challenges of nationhood call for attention of every Christian towards the building of a Virile nation. In this, Dzurgba subscribed that, the patriot does not neglect his duty to his family, local community, or state, his duty to his country remains the firsts of his duties. In the context of this subscription, Christian individuals are implored to shun apathy in matters that concern the sustainability and good governance of Nigeria, and to develop national consciousness towards good governance and democratic principles.
