SUMMARY
This study assessed the BIM implementation as a digital design tool in Architecture with the intention of establishing the extent of its application. The status of BIM implementation in architecture was evaluated using the BIM implementation index (BIMII). The overall BIMII was over 50%, which shows that the use of BIM in architectural practice in Benin is just above average. The findings indicate that architects, who serve as building consultants and are primarily in charge of project design, gave BIM a higher priority than quantity surveyors and engineers. The implications of the findings suggested that architects in Benin are more likely than any other professional in the construction business to incorporate BIM in their projects if they have better access to resources, experience, cutting-edge technology, training, and support.
The study suggests that professional organizations, tertiary universities offering any building construction-related programs, and stakeholders in the construction industry should be educated and trained on BIM in Benin's architecture practice as well as its potential benefits. Additionally, in order to make BIM adoption easier, attention should be given to government policies via law, attitude shifts, top management support and commitment, client interest in using BIM in their project, and commitment and cooperation of professional bodies.
