ABSTRACT
The aim of this study was to analyse particles in Ẹdo syntax. The study discussed the modification, functions and distribution of these particles in Ẹdo clauses. In carrying out this research, the study employed data from native speakers of Ẹdo language as well as published and unpublished works in the language. The oral data were collected in conversations. The particles were then separated into different classes; modifying types, functional classes and distribution in Ẹdo clauses. It was then showed that particles can occur in pre-/post-position. i.e. (before or after) the clause, nouns or verbs it modifies. The study was a purely descriptive one based on the Basic Linguistic Theory by Dixon (2007). This study found out that the particles modify the whole clause, the nominal or the verb in the clause, and could function amongst others as interrogative and indicative particles.
