ADULT LITERACY EDUCATION PROGRAMME FOR POVERTY ALLEVIATION IN OREDO LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA OF EDO STATE

ABSTRACT

This study was conducted to assess adult literacy education programmes for poverty alleviation in Oredo LGA area of Edo State. The purpose of the study was to find out the extent at which adult literacy education programme is accepted in Oredo local government area of Edo state, to know the various poverty alleviation programmes employed in Oredo local government area of Edo state, to understand how adult literacy education programme has helped in alleviating poverty in Oredo local government area of Edo state, to find out the various challenges facing adult literacy education programme towards poverty alleviation in Oredo local government area of Edo state. This study made use of the descriptive survey research design. The population of the study consisted One hundred and fifty (150) adult learners which is also the sample respondents for the study. The instrument for data collection for this study was a self-constructed close-ended questionnaire titled “adult literacy education programmes for poverty alleviation in Oredo LGA area of Edo state questionnaire. The researcher’s supervisors were part of the validation team. The split-half reliability method was used to determine the reliability of the instrument and the process yielded an index of 0.68. Data obtained from the study were analysed using simple percentages, frequency counts and mean score analysis.
