ABSTRACT
The study examined Adult Education as an Agent for Climate Literacy in Nigeria with a case study of Egor Local Government Area of Edo State . The study were to examine; to what extent does Adult Education contribute to Climate Literacy among adults in Egor Local Government Area of Edo State;what are the current levels of Climate Literacy among adult learners in Egor Local Government Area of Edo State; how do adult learners perceive the role of Adult Education in enhancing their understanding and awareness of climate change issues. The research design employed in this study is the descriptive survey. The sample size of 100 adult literacy participants was used as a respondents and simple random sampling technique was used for the study, with 25 respondents from each Adult Literacy centers. The major instrument used for data collection in this study is the questionnaire which bears the tittle tagged " Adult Education as an Agent for Climate Literacy". The questionnaire is divided into two parts of "A and B". Section A dwells on the demographic data while section B questions were raised to answer the research questions of the study. The response scale adopted was the likert scale. The study then stated that, Adult Education Programs contributes significantly to Climate Literacy among adult learners in Egor Local Government Area of Edo State. And the current levels of Climate Literacy among adult learners in Egor Local Government Area of Edo State is significantly high due to the participation of the adult learners in Adult Education Programs. Also the adult learners perceived the role of Adult Education in enhancing their understanding and awareness of Climate Change issues as significantly important. Based on the research findings,one can comfortably conclude that Adult Education significantly contributes to Climate Literacy among the adult learners in Egor Local Government Area of Edo. Furthermore,based on the research findings, the following recommendations was raised for the effectiveness of Adult Education Programs in Egor Local Government Area of Edo State; the government should provide resources and support for Climate Literacy Programs, Climate Education should be incorporated into Adult Education Curricula, Partnerships should be encouraged between educational institutions, environmental organizations and community groupsto promote Climate Literacy initiatives.
