ABSTRACT
This study was carried out to examine adult education as a tool for rural
transformation in Oredo local government, Edo state, Nigeria. The
objective of the study are to investigate the relationship between adult
education and rural development, to find out ways in which adult
education can culminate to rural transformation, to examine the roles of
the government in rural development and to investigate the possible
impediments to community development. The study covered Oredo local
government.
The study drew sample from the population of Oredo local government
area. A 100% response rate was obtained from the questionnaires that
was administered. The survey method of data collection was applied in
the study because it is only the method best suited for the collection of
data from a sample of a chosen population of any study, which was
applicable in the study. The findings from this study shows that most of
the respondents know what adult education is but have not accessed it.
The study reveals that there are different impediments to the accessing of
adult education programmes in the local government. The study
recommends that the government should implement policies and measures
to enable residents of Oredo local government to access adult education
programmes. Lastly, the government should offer educational
opportunities and skill development programmes for Oredo residents
