ABSTRACT

Maintaining normal blood glucose level is crucial to keep blood glucose levels stable and management of overall health. This study investigates the anti-diabetic effect of bi-herbal formulation of tiger nut (Cyperus esculentus) and date palm fruit (Phoenix dactylifera), Despite diabetes mellitus being widespread around the world, there is a lack of extensive research on both the acute and sub-acute effects of bi-herbal formulation of tiger nut and date palm fruit. This study utilizes a variety of methods, encompassing acute toxicity assessment, normoglycemic blood sugar level evaluation, and anti-diabetic studies conducted on rats. Ethanol extracts of bi-herbal formulation of tiger nut and date palm fruit were administered, indicating its ability to decrease blood glucose levels in normoglycemic rats, validating its hypoglycemic effects. In diabetic rat, the ethanol extracts showed promising results in effectively decreasing blood glucose level, similar to the effect of the standard diabetic drug Glibenclamide, suggesting its potential in the management of hyperglycemia and diabetes mellitus. Additionally, the extract showed hepato-protective potential and demonstrated favorable effect on lipid profiles, notably reducing cholesterol, triglycerides, and LDL concentrations. Furthermore, bi-herbal formulation of tiger nut and date palm fruit had no adverse effects on kidney astrology confirming its safety. These findings highlight the anti-diabetic effect of this natural dietary product. Overall, it is a great step towards good health care and well-being.
