ABSTRACT

Even at low levels, lead exposure has a profound impact on neurocognitive function. The harmful consequences of lead exposure are extensively documented such as impaired motor function, increased oxidative stress, cell deterioration, and elevated lead levels in the cerebellum. The primary mechanism of lead neurotoxicity is reported to be oxidative stress. To treat or manage disorders associated with oxidative stress, plant-derived antioxidants are utilized based on their inherent capacity to combat oxidative damage. Among these, Cucumis sativus, a well-known fruit renowned for its antioxidant properties, has garnered attention. Accordingly, this study sought to investigate the possible neuroprotective activity of Cucumis sativus fruit extract on Lead-induced cerebellar toxicity in Wistar rats. For this study, twentyone Wistar rats were divided randomly into three groups, each comprising seven rats. Group A served as the control, receiving 1 ml of distilled water. Group B was administered 100 mg/kg body weight of lead-acetate alone.
