ABSTRACT
Asthma is a complex syndrome with many clinical phenotypes in both adult and children. Its major characteristics include a variable degree of airflow obstruction, bronchial hyperresponsiveness and airway inflammation. Solanum nigrum L. is a herb with various parts used medicinally for the treatment of different kinds of diseases such as asthma. Several drugs have been used to control asthma, however a permanent cure for asthma 1s still elusive. The possible involvement of oxidative stress in airway disease has been suggested by several workers.
And also, Asthma is defined by airway intlammation and remodeling and brochial hyper responsIveness. The role of inflammation in asthma is well established, and neutroplhils, eostnophils and mast cells within the lung have been shown to have pivotal roles for the initiation and maintainance of airway inflammation. ovalbumin sensitized guinea pig. The 30 guinea pigs were divided into five groups of animals each and a control group. The guinea pigs were sensitized and exposed again to the antigen (ovalbumin) by way of challenging them, there was no significant (P>0.05) increase of monocytes observed in the lungs of ovalbumin sensitized and challenged guinea pigs compared to the healthy ones. And also, some groups of granulocytes showed statistically significance and some group showed statistically insignificance (P>0.05) decrease of granulocytes was observed in the lungs of the orally treated guinea pigs compared to the lungs of the untreated guinea pigs.
