ABSTRACT

A survey of the monogeneans of anurans in ozomo community located in Ovia North-East Local Government Area of Edo State was undertaken from November, 2016 to June, 2017. Anuran hosts examined included Afrixalus dorsalis, Amietophrynus maculates, Arthroleptis sp., Arthroleptis poecilonotus, Hemisus marmoralis, Hoplobatrachus occipitals, Hyperolius concolor, H. fuscivetris, Hyperolus sp., Leptopelis occidentalis, L. spiritusnoctis, Ptychadena bibroni, Pty. longirostries, Pty. mascareniensis, Pty. oxyrhynchus, Pty. pumilio and Silurana tropicalis. Three (3) species of monogenean parasites were recovered from three (3) Ptychadena species.The monogenean parasites included Polystoma prucei, P. prudhoei and P. aeschimanni which were recovered from Pty. mascareniensis, Pty. oxyrhynchus, Pty. pumilio respectively. The overall prevalence of monogenean infection in this study was 3.0% while the overall mean intensity was 3.3 parasites/infected host. This record of P. prucei, P. prudhoei and P. aeschimanni in this study, confirmed their presence in Nigeria.
