A SURVEY OF INSTRUCTIONAL STRATEGIES USED IN THE TEACHING OF LITERATURE-IN-ENGLISH DRAMA IN SECONDARY SCHOOLS IN EGOR LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA

ABSTRACT

This study investigated the instructional strategies used in teaching drama in Literature-in-English classes in senior secondary schools in Egor Local Government Area of Edo State. Two research questions were raised, and one hypothesis was tested to guide the study. The study employed the descriptive research survey design and used a total of 50 teachers as research respondents out of a total population of 55 secondary school tLiterature-in-English teachers in 13 public secondary schools in Egor Local Government Area of Edo State. A questionnaire titled “Questionnaire on Instructional Strategies Used in the Teaching of the Drama aspect of Literature-in-English” was used as the research instrument.. Mean and standard deviation were used in answering the research questions while t-test was used in testing the hypothesis. The findings revealed that a variety of teaching strategies are being applied in classrooms, including interactive role-playing, collaborative group projects, and improvisation exercises. Several factors influence teachers' use of these strategies, including teaching experience, school policies, peer collaboration, and resource availability. The study also found no significant difference between male and female teachers' use of instructional strategies. The study's findings suggest that teachers should consider students' interests when choosing instructional strategies and that school authorities should provide necessary resources to support teaching and learning.
