ABSTRACT

Rammed earth is a type of construction that uses compacted soil to form walls. The soil is mixed with a small amount of cement and water, and then placed in layers between wooden forms. The layers are compacted using a ramming too, creating a solid and durable wall.

This research paper attempts to build a case for the adoption and use of the rammed earth construction approach in Edo State, simplifying the transition from conventional to sustainable construction, particularly in the state. During the investigation, it was discovered that rammed earth approach is practicable in Edo state, but must fulfill specific basic standards for rammed earth constructions according to the building code. Aside from that, it was determined that enabling its use to trickle down from the highest echelons of society to the lowest echelons is a strategic technique to enhance rammed earth utilization in Edo state, in order to increase its general appeal as a construction material and methodology.
