ABSTRACT

This study aims to investigate the concept of infill architecture in the urban context of Benin City, with a focus on understanding the utilization and potential of its urban space. Infill architecture refers to the practice of developing vacant or underutilized spaces within existing urban areas, often through the insertion of new buildings or structures. Benin City, the capital of Edo State in Nigeria, is experiencing rapid urbanization and population growth, leading to increased pressure on available land and the need for efficient utilization of urban space. The research will employ a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative analysis and qualitative methods such as site surveys, interviews, and case studies. The study will examine the urban fabric of Benin City, assessing the compatibility of spaces, social dynamics, and economic development.
