The data for this study was collected orally from a 65 year old educated Ijaw speaker, using the Ibadan 400 word list. The speech collected for the data was recorded in .wav format. In the course of data analysis which was carried out in chapter 4, Dixon’s Basic Linguistic Theory was adopted for the analysis of the data, in the perspective of New Englishes. From the findings of the work made by the researcher, it can be seen that the Ijaw variety of English constitutes 7 simple vowels and 21 consonants.
