ABSTRACT

Biophilic design, an innovative architectural approach, has emerged as a powerful tool to enhance the well-being and overall health of occupants in University of Benin (UNIBEN) lecture halls. This undergraduate research project delves into the implementation of biophilic design principles in UNIBEN's lecture spaces, emphasizing the positive influence these designs have on the health and well-being of those who use them.

This study is fueled by the growing recognition of the significance of students' well-being in educational environments and the considerable advantages of incorporating nature-inspired elements into these spaces. The research utilizes a mixed-methods approach, seamlessly blending quantitative and qualitative methods to yield comprehensive data.

Quantitative data will be collected through the distribution of survey questionnaire to students utilizing UNIBEN lecture halls. These surveys will gauge numerous aspects of their well-being, including stress levels, focus, emotional state, and overall contentment with the learning environment. Moreover, environmental data, such as air quality and lighting conditions, will be closely monitored to correlate with the respondents' feedback.

Qualitative data will be sourced through interviews with some stakeholders, such as lecturers, architects, and facility managers, involved in the design and maintenance of UNIBEN lecture halls. Their insights will offer a profound understanding of the design process, hurdles encountered, and opportunities for further enhancement.

The results of this research are expected to illuminate the impressive effectiveness of biophilic design in elevating the health and well-being of lecture hall occupants at UNIBEN.
