A STUDY OF STUDENTS KNOWLEDGE OF THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN LANGUAGE AND IDENTITY IN LITERATURE AND STUDENTS ACHIEVEMENT IN LITERATURE IN BENIN METROPLIS.

ABSTRACT

This examined a study of students’ knowledge of the relationship between language and identity in literature in Benin Metropolis. The study adopted the survey design which was used to source data from targeted respondents. The data was using simple percentage and mean to analyse the research questions the result revealed that students’ knowledge of language and identity can enhances learning skills in Benin Metropolis. The result showed that students’ knowledge of language and identity shape their academic performance in literature in Benin Metropolis. The result also revealed that students’ knowledge of language and identity can influence their attitude towards literature in Benin Metropolis; and the study further revealed that students’ knowledge of language and identity can enhances interpersonal relationship in Benin Metropolis. The study recommended that students’ should seek to acquire knowledge of language and identity as to enhance their learning skills in Literature. Teachers involvement with students’ knowledge of language and identity should be encouraged to promote their academic performance in literature. Students should develop positive attitude on English language and identity as promote intellectual skills in literature. Students should develop interpersonal relationship and enhance their knowledge of language and identity in English Literature.
