ABSTRACT

          This research study examines the concept of a sociolinguistics study of language use in Iluoro festival of Opoji. Its objective is to focus readers attention to language use in Iluoro festival which aim at classifying this language and discussing under each the functions of language used for Iluoro festival celebration to the people of Opoji. The work done in this research, were collected from competent native speakers of Opoji dialect which were a total number of Five interviewees using oral interviewing techniques with the aid of a digital voice recorder. Each of the voice recordings were saved, translated and then analyzed using the ethnographic model of SPEAKING. The study employed the theory of Ethnography of communication proposed by Dell Hymes  (1974). The findings of this research revealed that the language of Iluoro festival could occur in aspects of prayers, songs, dance and instrumen
