ABSTRACT
This study is carried out to investigate the socio-linguistic study of Urhobo proverbs, it's objectives is to explore and analyze Urhobo Proverbs from a socio-linguistic perspective in the context of English as a second language in Nigeria this will go a long way to offer a socio-linguistic in sight to the contribution of Urhobo language, culture and way of life in the socio-linguistic context of English as a second language.the data were sourced and collected from competent Urhobo native speakers and also from Urhobo music . The qualitative and analytic research design were adopted for the analysis in all twenty- five (25) Proverb were analyzed using Dell Hymes Ethnography of Communication theory as the major framework Dell Hymes Ethnography of Communication for such socio-linguistic variables as setting scene participant's, ends acts sequence instrumentality genres as are evidence in the data typology help us to classified the data into types.
