SUMMARY AND CONCLUSION
In this study, we made some interacting discoveries about the nature of discourse involving mixed genders. Here mixed is the case of the conversation or discussion involving male and female students.
The result of the study was that differences exist between males and females in a mixed discourse as well as between all male and female discourse. This is in the nature of the topic discussed as the male folks tend to discuss such topics as sports and politics, while the females tend to focus on topics such as family, fashion, domestic issues and so on.
The other feature observed was turn-taken whereby the imitation and participation in the various stages of the discussion are done on a turn by turn basis. It was observed here that violations are common in the aspect of the male members of a discussion tend to interrupt the females as a way of displaying or showing dominance in a conversation. The sociolinguistic phenomenon of code switching and writing, slangs taboos were also observed on a limited scale to find out how this applies in mixed gender to code mix and switch in a discourse and slangs are used greatly especially in male set up.
