ABSTRACT
This study examine the sociolinguistics appraisal of slangs by selected Nigerian hip- hop artist and were able to identify slangs/slangy expressions in Nigerian music. the study also examine the development and use of these slang terms, as well as the role it play in Nigerian music. This study adopts the historical research method that explains the cause of events, and their effect in the present events. The research method adopted is a qualitative analysis of secondary source of data related to this study. Music has a great influence on people, it is no surprise that we see a lot of young people imitate their favorite music artists, dress like them, try to speak like them, and even adopt lines from their music. This influence goes as far as fans from other countries trying to learn the language of their favorite artists thereby promoting culture. Slang used by musicians is fun to listen to, one cannot but admire the creativity that is used to come up with these slangs. This study recommend that that more materials be made available on the study of slangy expressions and that more 9 attention be paid to the relationship between slang and music. This study also recommends that slangs should be studied as a proper linguistic register.
