ABSTRACT

This study majorly examines the socio-economic development of Imiringi community with a time frame that span between 1090-2022 as a result of the establishment of SPDC, the yet to translate into concrete reality, development efforts by corporate bodies in Imiringi community. This study also looked at the importance of socio-economic development in different capacities in a society This study also looked at the origin of Imiringi community or rather the historical background of Imiringi community. The name is derived from the word ‘Migiri’’ meaning Ema Emelem which is synonymous to the community or village that is filled with corrupt practices which is also affecting the community. It also talks about its founder and patriarch which has its origin in the Nembe language as “Peretia’’ meaning Wealth. He is also the one of the sons of Okoroma who migrated from the Benin Empire. The patriarch had three sons Arile, Ekurugha, and Asudum. Ekurugha had otokopiri and Anyan only as sons, Arile on the other hand had Igbo as his only surviving son and Asudum had Ekata, Oba, Ezi and Arugu(Esele). Geographically, Imiringi is located in Emeyal clan (Kolo creek), Ogbia Local Government Area Bayelsa State. Imiringi shares boundary with the following communities from the North-East, it shares its boundary with Otuasega and Oruma, South-West is with Kolo and Emeyal and from the NorthWest is Elebele and Emeyal.
