ABSTRACT
Kinship terminologies carry substantial significance within African languages. This project centers on scrutinizing the kinship terminologies specific to the Itsekiri language. The primary aim is to pinpoint and analyze these terms. Gathering data involves primary and secondary sources. Oneon-one interviews with native speakers, guided by a comprehensive word list, yield primary data. Secondary data encompasses a variety of published and unpublished materials. The research employs Charles J. Fillmore's semantic frame theory as its theoretical framework. This investigation delves into the interconnectedness of these terms, leading to their classification based on relationships and bonds. The study's thorough exploration enriches our understanding of the cultural and linguistic facets of Itsekiri society. It underscores the pivotal role these terms assume in interpersonal communication and the preservation of cultural heritage.
