ABSTRACT
This study is aimed to quantify the amount of serum cortisol levels or blood cortisol levels that are present in all trimesters of pregnancy. The test was carried out on 33 pregnant women, 10 of them where in their first trimester, 10 where in their second trimester. 10 where in their third trimester and 3 of them where not pregnant this summed up to 33 pregnant women respectively. Gestational length was determined by last menstrual period for each of the women tested respectively. Blood samples was collected in a plain bottle and centrifuged. The serum was collected and analytical test was run on each sample respectively. The results determined from this research was rather interesting as it was determined after running some statistical analysis that the level of cortisol in the control group was the highest and on the first trimester the level of cortisol drops a little bit although still within the normal range and the second trimester rises significantly above the 1\first but is still below the control and the third trimester actually drops below the second trimester a bit but I still higher than the control. This result was not in agreement with the work referenced in this research and it could be as a result of age of the pregnant women, time of collection of the samples, location of study, mode of testing. It could also be as a result of the time taken before the analysis was run.
