ABSTRACT
This research examined the linguistic significance of greetings system in Edo, the different context of greetings and acknowledgement as well as the kind of expression used. The socio linguistic factors that accounts for the type and structuring of Edo greeting which includes age, sex, context and time. It was also observed based on the reviews done that there is considerable variation in greeting expression usage across, languages and cultures.
Even within the same culture there is variation as in the case of Edo where greetings are used to express various socio cultural and linguistics behaviors.
