ABSTRACT
This study examined the morpho-syntax of the Nigerian pidgin used in the broadcast media in Benin City. The previous studies on the morphosyntax of the Nigerian pidgin focused on a comprehensive grammar of the Nigerian pidgin. This present study specifically focuses on the morphosyntax of Nigerian Pidgin as used in the broadcast media in Benin City. The work analysed the official and formalized use of Nigerian Pidgin as used in the broadcast media. The method used for collecting the data was through a primary source which involved the recordings of pidgin programmes from media stations like ITV (Independent Television Radio) and EBS (Edo Broadcasting Service). The data analysis involved the isolation of utterances from the data by extracting some words, phrases and clauses for the relevance of the analysis of the morpho syntax of the Nigerian pidgin. Catford (1965) levels of translation was used in translating the data to English. The theory used for this work is the descriptive framework which describes individual languages the way they are. The findings of this work include the omission of some words like determiners e.g. the. The WH-questions can occur at sentence initial, medial and final position in a sentence.
