ABSTRACT
This study titled “A Morpho-phonology Of English Loan Words in Yoruba” is a documentation and analysis of some English Loan Words in Yoruba language. The study observed that a large part of the Yoruba vocabulary are loan words from other languages particularly the English language due to language contact in a multilingual society. The study also found out the extent to which language contact has influenced borrowing/loaning of words and how some loan words have been integrated into the vocabulary of the Yoruba speakers. The data for this study was gathered from selected Yoruba movies (ADEDA, a 2021 movie written by Akeem Adeyemi, produced by Wunmi Toriola, and directed by Adebayo Tijani. The total number of data from this movie is fourteen (14). THE BONDS, a 2003 movie written by Mide Martins, produced by Jessica Ademola and directed by Kayode Adebayo. The total number of data from this movie is ten (10). THE COKERS, a 2021 movie written and produced by Oyebade Adebimpe and directed by Muyideen Ayinde. The total number of data from this movie is eight (8). The total number of all the data is thirty-two (32). The researcher found out that in the process of incorporating these loan words into the Yoruba language vocabulary, these loan words undergo morphological and phonological adjustments in order to fit into the pronunciation, thus, morpho-phonemic approach was used to analyze the collected data in this study.
