ABSTRACT
This study sets out to investigate the working principles of an English based secret code. The research examines the factors that influence the coding process and evaluate the effects on basic communication. This was achieved by employing the primary method of data collection, which entailed conducting interviews, making audio recordings, and using a qualitative method of data analysis to analyze the data collected, to understand the patterns and strategies that come to play when codifying these words. The Communicative Art of Decipherment Framework (CAD) is applied in the analysis to show the process of encoding, decoding, interpreting and action that is involved in the Enọ coded language. This study observed that the factors influencing the efficient codification and communication in Enọ, include memory retention, knowledge of the basic vowels and consonant of the English language and attention to social context.
