ABSTRACT
For quite a while, most studies have focused on the use of cartoons to explain real life happenings during elections in Nigeria. None of these studies have looked at cartoons relating to the 2023 general elections in Nigeria, this is what this study will primarily aim to do. This study examined the context-meaning of 2023 general election based cartoons in some selected Nigerian newspaper in the light of lexico semantic analysis. This study provided needed explanations as well as brought to light, hidden meanings of the cartoons used as the data in this work. The effort here was an attempt to break off from the usual approaches to political cartoons among several researchers. This lexico semantic study adopted the contextual theory of meaning in carrying out its analysis.
