A HISTORY OF GUINNESS NIGERIA PLC AS A MULTINATIONAL CORPORATION

SUMMARY

This study was caned out to examine a history of Guinness Nigeria plc. as a multinational corporation. The study looked into the historical origin of Guinness in Nigeria, the expansion of Guinness in Nigeria which characterised Guinness developments in Nigeria and the role of Guinness and corporate social responsibility in Nigeria. A careful examination of Guinness Nigeria plc. revealed that Guinness Nigeria plc. was incorporated in April, 1950 as a trading company importing Guinness start from Dublin. In 1963, Ikeja in Lagos Nigeria was chosen as the first location outside the British Isles to brew the iconic dark beer. The company has since expanded its businesses to include brewing, packaging and marketing of beer. It currently operates four breweries in Nigeria. Its diverse product line includes Guinness Foreign Extra Stout; Guinness Extra Smooth, Malta, Guinness, Harp Lager Beer, Gordon’s Spark, Spinoff Ice, Satzenbrau Pilsner lager, Top Malt, Dubic Lager, Dubic 53 Dark Ale, Snapp, Alvaro, Master’s Choice, Origin Spirit Mixed Drink and Origin Bitters.
