John Dewey was an eminent and influential philosopher of education. His educational philosophy was thought to be one of the best both in his time and in the present. His educational theory came as an attack on the old system of education. The old system of education which focused more on imparting already made knowledge and information on students, and which they had to obey without resistance. In this system, education was conceived as nothing other than the impartation of information about remote matters and the conveying of learning through verbal signs. Such system of education as we saw had its attendant problems.
