Summary
We examined the Thrasymachan problem of power in social order. The primary concern was to work out how the individual and society would be reconciled. We searched for and to defined the relationship between man and man as well as man and society. One problem that arose from an examination of power in social order was how to conceptualize human nature and to employ it in the explanation of the emergence of the civil society and the state. Thus we responded to certain fundamental research questions or problems: What level or degree of independence, freedom and autonomy individuals had within, and in relation to the state? What was the extent of the power that society exercised over the individual? What was the extent of power exercised by the sovereign or ruler in a state, over the citizens
