ABSTRACT

This project is a critical evaluation of the concept of human person in Benin Ontology. Personhood as a concept has attracted various definition attempt, ranging from Philosophy, theology, psychology religion etc. To this end we are considering the African view specifically Benin. The Bini/Edo in their conception of person, believe a person to be material and immaterial. They sees person from different perspective, those perspective is what this project seems to expose. Apart from the physical and immaterial idea of person, what else can be said to authenticate one personhood? This work also examined the these Ideas of human person if they are still the same in our contemporary Benin, to know if the ancient idea or believe has changed as it concern the believe of who really is a person in Benin?. Some Recommendations were made to help trace or keep the Edo people on track as there is already obvious dancing to the music of contemporary time, which is not all good for a healthy Benin society.
