ABSTRACT
The subject matter of this research work is to correlate learning style and academic performance of adult learners in Ikpoba – Okha local government area, Edo state.
The total population of this study was two hundred and thirty persons (230), using a simple random sampling technique, the numbers of respondents became one hundred and seven (107). Four research questions were formulated to guide the study, from which the questionnaire was designed.
From the analyzed data, it showed that adult learners in the literacy centers of Ikpoba – Okha local government area employ various learning styles, which have been positively received and appreciated for their effectiveness in grooming adult learners and there are multiple strategies available to enhance the academic performance of adult learners in Ikpoba – Okha local government area.
Based on the findings which have been made, the following recommendations are opined:
1. Provide alternative learning materials: Since adult learners do not find reading textbooks appealing, it is important to offer alternative learning materials that cater to their interests and learning styles. This could include multimedia resources, hands-on activities, or digital platforms.
2. Enhance access to educational materials: Efforts should be made to improve access to educational resources such as good textbooks or printed materials. This could involve establishing partnerships with libraries, educational institutions, or organizations that can provide resources or funding for their acquisition.
3. Address time and financial constraints: Recognizing that time and financial constraints impact adult learners' academic performance, measures should be taken to alleviate these challenges. This could include offering flexible learning schedules, financial assistance programmes, or scholarships specifically targeted towards adult learners.
