ABSTRACT

From statistics the world population is expected to reach 9billion people by 2045 as a result a corresponding development in the infrastructural system is required to meet up with the huge quantity of cement demand. From recent studies a major percentage (60%) of the global CO2 is emitted during the production of clinker, which is threatening to the atmosphere. In order to reduce the massive emission this greenhouse gas there is a need for an alternative binder. Of all the supplementary cementitious material, limestone and clay tends to be the most readily available worldwide although the calcination economic difference is marginal.  

This study examines the physical properties of Limestone Calcined Clay Cement (LC3) by investigating the effect of mixing ratio of calcined clay and limestone on strength development of the LC3 blend of clays and limestone gotten from Okpella, Ikpeshi, and Uzebba .

This was done by varying different mixes of the LC3 blend in the ratio 1.2:3 and clay which were calcined at 700 and 800°C in muffle furnace by fixing the proportion of gypsum at 5% and the results were compared with OPC.
