ABSTRACT
The contact or non-contact pachymeter is an instrument used inthe measurement of central corneal thickness. There are several instruments used for the measurement of the central corneal thickness(CCT) such as the ultrasound pachymeter, optical coherence tomography(OCT) machine, specular microscopy, A- Scan etc. An example of the non-contact pachymeter is the ultrasound pachymeter which measures the corneal thickness by estimating the difference in the time it takes the ultrasound wave to be reflected from the posterior and anterior surface of the cornea. An example of the non contact-pachymeter is the OCT machine and it uses the principle known as optical interferometry. The data gotten from this study was analysed using the statistical package for social science software(SPSS) version 23, pearson correlation and ANOVA. 80 students were used with 49 males and 31 females,the results showed the mean CCT value for the ultrasound pachymetry(OD) was 545.46±44.56 and for OS was 546.45±49.35 while for the OCT machine(OD) was 525.32±42.17 and for the OS was 524.95±46.43. In conclusion, the results of this study showed that OCT machine slightly underestimates the CCT values when compared to ultrasound pachymetry and it was highly noted that they are highly correlated. From the results, it is recommended that OCT machine be used more in checking the CCT than the ultrasound pachymetry which has a lot of disadvantages.
