ABSTRACT
This study examined the Oza-Aibiokunla, and Igbanke dialects of Edo Language. It employed a lexical-statistical analysis of these dialects of Edo language in order to determine their linguistics status. Data were drawn from a wordlist of parts of the body, foods, names of animals, natural element, objects, proper nouns, adjectives, relationships, professions and other lexical items. The data were analyzed to find out if varieties have a genetic and linguistics relationship. From the wordlist, we tried to find out if these words form cognates. In addition, we used the cognates to show the relationship that exist between these varieties. It was discovered that the Igbanke dialect is far removed from the Edo language while the Oza-Aibiokunla dialect share similarities with the Edo language.
