ABSTRACT
This study presents A Comparative Analysis of Benin and Utese sound systems, with the objective of finding out a reason for their similarities and differences. Edo and Utese belong to the Edoid language family, and by default a constituent of the Niger Congo language family.
This study examines their similarities and differences that make them to be regarded as different languages.
The methods adopted in sourcing data for this research is both the primary and secondary source of data collection, where the interview method was adopted for collection of data for analysis and data were sourced from written work in Edo and Utese. The theoretical framework adopted was the comparative method of mass comparison by Greenberg (1963).
The research found out amongst the following: the similarities and differences between Edo Utese sound systems, the replacement of sounds that are not in Edo sound inventory.
