ABSTRACT

The primary goal of this work is to investigate the errors made in the orthography of Ẹdo street names using Orẹdo local government area as a case study. For this research work, we employed the descriptive linguistic framework and we followed Ọmọzuwa (2010) model of his suggested and proposed Ẹdo orthographic system. The data collection was both the primary means which is from the map of Orẹdo containing the names of the approved streets in the local government area, and the secondary means which is from resource materials, interview with heads of street (odionwere) in other to get the approve rendering of the names, and a few snap shots of signboards.

The work is divided into five (5) chapters: 1) introduces the work, 2) presents the literature review, 3) talks about the theoretical frame work used for the research work, 4) the data collected was presentation and analyzed in this chapter, and lastly 5) the findings, conclusion and recommendations of the work was presented.

In summary, we investigated the errors made and made appropriate corrections to them and then recommend a further research in order to improve orthography studies and error analysis approach in linguistics.
